💔 After getting the DNA test done, Anthony meets with Shayla and Shayla says something that Anthony can't believe.😱

[Scene: Late afternoon. Anthony sits on a bench, DNA results envelope in hand. Shayla walks up nervously.]

Shayla:
Hey... you're early.

Anthony:
Yeah. I figured I'd get here first, clear my head. Got the results.

Shayla: (sits beside him)
I’ve been sick all day thinking about this.

Anthony: (holds up the envelope)
You want to open it?

Shayla:
I already know what it says, Anthony.

Anthony: (hesitates)
Then tell me before I open it.

Shayla: (deep breath)
He’s not yours.

Anthony: (silent for a few seconds)
...I had a feeling. But hearing it—damn, Shayla.

Shayla:
I never meant to lie to you. I was scared, and things were messy back then.

Anthony:
Messy? You told me I was the father. I’ve been in his life. His dad, Shayla. For four years.

Shayla: (tearing up)
I know. And I didn’t do it to hurt you. I thought—I thought maybe you were the better man to raise him. The other guy… he disappeared.

Anthony:
Wait… You knew the other guy might be the father this whole time?

Shayla: (nods)
Yes. I was with both of you around the same time. I didn't want to believe it was him. He wasn't stable. You were... you were kind. You loved him before you even knew for sure.

Anthony: (voice rising)
Because I thought he was mine! I changed my whole life for that boy. I turned down jobs, moved cities, Shayla. I became a father.

Shayla: (crying now)
And you were a good one. Better than I ever imagined. That’s why this hurts so much.

Anthony: (quiet, shaking his head)
You should’ve told me. From the beginning.

Shayla:
I was going to. A thousand times. But every time I saw you with him, I couldn’t do it. I thought maybe—maybe you’d never need to know.

Anthony: (coldly)
Until I started asking questions. Until I wanted the test.

Shayla:
Yes.

Anthony: (opens the envelope, reads the paper slowly, then folds it)
It’s real. He’s not mine.

Shayla:
Anthony… what are you going to do?

Anthony: (long pause)
I don’t know. I love that boy like he’s my own. But now I don’t even know what my role is anymore. What am I? Just… some guy who raised someone else’s kid?

Shayla:
You’re more than that to him. You always will be. DNA doesn’t erase the bedtime stories, the scraped knees, the birthday mornings.

Anthony:
No. But it changes everything else.

Shayla: (whispers)
I’m so sorry. I never meant for this to happen.

Anthony: (looking away)
The truth always comes out, Shayla. Just sucks it came out this late.

Shayla:
Will you still see him?

Anthony: (softly)
I don’t know. Right now… I need space. I need to figure out if I can keep loving a kid who technically isn’t mine—without it breaking me.

Shayla:
I understand. But whatever you decide, please know—you were the best thing that ever happened to him.

Anthony: (stands up, eyes misty)
Yeah. I just wish I could say the same.

(Anthony walks away slowly. Shayla stays on the bench, crying silently.)
