Setting: A tense silence fills the room. Cocoa sits on the edge of the couch, wringing her hands. Kai stands by the window, arms crossed, jaw clenched. Jalen walks in from the hallway, sensing the tension.
Jalen (concerned):
“What’s going on? I heard raised voices. Cocoa, what’s wrong?”
Kai (coldly):
“Why don’t you ask her?”
Jalen (looks between them):
“Cocoa?”
Cocoa (quietly):
“I was going to tell him. I was going to tell both of you. I just… I didn’t know how.”
Kai (turns around):
“Tell us what? That I’ve been living a lie for seventeen years? That you decided I didn’t need to know who my real father is?”
Jalen (eyes narrowing):
“What do you mean ‘real father’? Cocoa…”
Cocoa (voice trembling):

“It’s not that simple. He didn’t know, Jalen. I never told him I was pregnant. I didn’t think he’d care.”
Kai (quiet rage):
“You didn’t give him a chance to care. You didn’t give me a chance to decide if I wanted to know him.”
Cocoa (desperate):
“I made mistakes. I know I did. But I did what I thought was right at the time. I’m not perfect, Kai, but everything I did—I did out of love.”
Jalen (quiet, distant):
“Love doesn’t lie. Love doesn’t hide the truth for seventeen years.”
Kai (tears brimming):
“So what now? Am I supposed to just… go meet this stranger and pretend like I care?”
Cocoa (whispers):
“No. You don’t have to do anything you’re not ready for. But… I thought you deserved the choice. Even if it’s late.”
Kai (sits down slowly):
“I don’t know who I am anymore.”
Jalen (after a pause):
“You’re my son. That’s who you are. I may not be your blood, but I’ve been your father since day one. That doesn’t change because of a DNA test.”

“You really still want to be my dad… after all this?”
