Anthony said, “Shayla, Amber told me that Kai doesn’t look like you.😱

Anthony:
“Shayla, Amber told me that Kai doesn’t look like you.” 😱

Shayla:
“…What? What do you mean she said that? Why is she even saying things like that?”

Anthony:
“I don’t know. We were just talking, and she kind of blurted it out. She said she noticed it a while ago but didn’t want to bring it up.”

Shayla:
“That’s not her business to notice or speak on. Kai is my son. Period.”

Anthony:
“I know that. I’m not saying he’s not yours. But you’ve got to admit, he does look… different. People are starting to whisper.”

Shayla:
“Whisper what, Anthony? That my child isn’t mine? Are you serious right now?”

Anthony:
“No, not that. But you and Kai don’t really share any strong physical traits. He’s got lighter skin, different eyes, even his hair texture is—”

Shayla:
“You’re walking on very thin ice. Kids can look like anyone in the family. My grandfather had green eyes. You want to run a DNA test now, too?”

Anthony:
“Whoa, relax. I’m not accusing you of anything. I’m just saying what was said. I thought you should know.”

Shayla:
“No, you didn’t just think I should know. You came in here with your eyes all wide like you had some kind of gotcha moment. Like you were expecting me to confess something.”

Anthony:
“Shayla, come on. That’s not fair.”

Shayla:
“What’s not fair is people questioning my motherhood because my child doesn't fit their idea of what he should look like. Do you know how hurtful that is?”

Anthony:
“I get that. And I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have even brought it up like that. I just thought maybe it was something we should talk about.”

Shayla:
“No. What you should’ve done is shut Amber down the moment she opened her mouth about my child. That’s what someone who respects me would’ve done.”

Anthony:
“You’re right. You’re right. I messed up.”

Shayla:
“Amber better keep Kai’s name out of her mouth. And you? Don’t come to me with gossip about my child ever again. I don’t care who says what.”

Anthony:
“Got it. I’ll make sure she never brings it up again. I’ll talk to her.”

Anthony:
“Shayla… I need to tell you something, but I don’t want you to freak out.”

Shayla:
(looking up slowly)
"That’s never a good way to start. What happened?"

Anthony:
“It’s… it’s about Kai. Something Amber said last night.”

Shayla:
“If this is more of her nosy drama, I’m really not interested—”

Anthony:
“She said… she said Kai doesn’t look like you. That he doesn’t look like either of us.” 😱

Shayla:
(pauses, blinking)
“…What?”

Anthony:
“She said she’s been thinking it for a while, but didn’t want to be the one to bring it up. She even showed me a baby picture of you from when you were Kai’s age.”

Shayla:
(tone sharpening)
“Why does she have baby pictures of me?”

Anthony:
“She doesn’t. She found them online. Your mom posted them years ago, apparently.”

Shayla:
(quiet, tense)
"So now she’s stalking my family’s Facebook page and comparing my child to me like it’s some… investigation?"

Anthony:
“Look, I told her it was none of her business. But I couldn’t ignore what she said. I’ve had thoughts too, Shayla. And there’s something else.”

Shayla:
(backing up a step)
"Something else?"

Anthony:
(voice low)
"A few weeks ago, I got a letter in the mail. No return address. Inside was a photo… of a baby. Not Kai. But a baby that looked just like you. Same dimples. Same eyes. And a note."

Shayla:
(voice breaking)
"A note? What did it say?"

Anthony:
"‘Ask her where your real son is.’"

Shayla:
(silent, frozen)
"You're lying."

Anthony:
"I wish I was. At first, I thought it was a sick joke. Maybe from your ex. Maybe someone trying to stir things up. But then Amber said what she said, and..."

Shayla:
(almost whispering)
"You think Kai’s not ours."

Anthony:
"I think... something’s not adding up. And I think you know more than you're saying."

Shayla:
(eyes welling with tears)
"I need you to stop talking. Right now."

Anthony:
"Shayla. What happened at that hospital? The night Kai was born... you were out cold for hours. You said you were fine but—"

Shayla:
"Don’t. You have no idea what you’re digging into.”

Anthony:
"Then tell me. Tell me before I find out another way."

Shayla:
(finally looking him dead in the eye)
"If you really want the truth, Anthony... you're not ready for it."
