SHAYLA TELL ARBY KAI IS YOUR SON .😱

Setting: A quiet park in late afternoon. The leaves rustle in the wind. Arby sits on a bench, sipping coffee. Shayla approaches slowly, hesitant but determined.

Shayla:
Hey… Arby.

Arby (surprised):
Shayla? Wow… it’s been what, six years?

Shayla (nodding):
Yeah. A long time.

Arby (stands up awkwardly):
You look… different. Not in a bad way, just… grown. What are you doing here?

Shayla (softly):
I needed to see you. There’s something we need to talk about. Something important.

Arby (concerned):
Is everything okay? You alright?

Shayla:
It’s not about me. It’s about… someone else.

Arby (frowns):
Who?

Shayla (takes a deep breath):
His name is Kai.

Arby (confused):
Kai? Who’s Kai?

Shayla (eyes meeting his):
He’s my son.

Arby (nodding slowly):
Oh… I didn’t know you had a kid. That’s… that’s big. How old is he?

Shayla (voice trembling):
He’s five.

Arby (pauses, calculating):
Wait… five?

Shayla (tears forming):
Yes. He’s five, Arby. Born in late September. Right after you left.

Arby (eyes widen):
Shayla… what are you saying?

Shayla (finally blurts it out):
Kai is your son.

Arby (staggering back):
What?! No. Wait, what? Shayla—what are you talking about?

Shayla (desperately):
I didn’t know how to tell you. I didn’t even know if I should tell you. I was scared. You were gone. You moved on. I was alone and confused and… I raised him without you because I thought that’s what I had to do.

Arby (still reeling):
You… never said anything. Not a word.

Shayla (crying now):
I know. I know I should have. But every time I tried to reach out, I froze. I didn’t want to disrupt your life.

Arby (voice cracking):
My life? Shayla, you kept my son from me!

Shayla (guiltily):
I know. And I’m sorry. Truly. But I’m here now because Kai’s been asking about his dad. He sees other kids with theirs and… he started asking why he doesn’t have one.

Arby (quiet):
Does he… does he know about me?

Shayla:
I told him his father was someone I cared about. Someone brave. Kind. But I didn’t give him your name. Not yet.

Arby (sits down heavily):
I don’t even know what to say. I missed five years… his first steps, his first words…

Shayla (sitting beside him):
You didn’t choose to miss them. I made that choice for both of us. I know that’s not fair. But I’m not here to make excuses. I’m here to make things right—if you want that.

Arby (looking at her):
Does he look like me?

Shayla (smiles sadly):
He’s got your eyes. And your laugh. Same stubborn streak too.

Arby (smirks through the pain):
That sounds about right.

Shayla:
You can meet him. If you're ready. I won’t push it. But he deserves to know you.

Arby (after a long pause):
I want to meet him. I need to meet him.

Shayla (relieved):
Okay. I’ll bring him by tomorrow?

Arby (quietly):
Yeah. Tomorrow.
