Anthony is about to Secretly Conduct a DNA Test on Kai😱
Kai:
Hey, man. You good? You’ve been acting weird all week. Like… really weird.
Anthony:
(Sits down, stares at the envelope)
Yeah. Yeah, I’m… good. Just tired, I guess.
Kai:
(Sits across from him, raising an eyebrow)
Don’t give me that. You’re not just tired. You’ve been dodging my texts, flinching every time I walk in. What’s going on?
Anthony:
(Sighs, then slides the envelope slowly across the table)
I need you to look at this.
Kai:
(Takes the envelope, confused)
What is it?
Anthony:
Just… open it. Please.
[Kai opens the envelope and pulls out a printed report. He scans it quickly, then looks up, stunned.]
Kai:
Wait… Is this… a DNA test?
Anthony:
Yeah.
Kai:
(Voice rising)
What the hell, Anthony? Whose DNA did you test?
Anthony:
Yours. And mine.
Kai:
You what?! You tested my DNA without telling me?
Anthony:
I had to, Kai. I didn’t know how else to handle this. Things haven’t made sense for a while. The timelines, the way people talk about us. I needed to know for sure.
Kai:
Know what, exactly?
Anthony:
(Silent for a beat)
I needed to know if we’re really brothers.
Kai:
(Stunned silence, then laughs bitterly)
Wow. So you just went behind my back? Got my DNA without asking? How’d you even do it?
Anthony:
Toothbrush. From your gym bag.
Kai:
(Disbelief)
That’s so messed up, Anthony. You stole my DNA?
Anthony:
I didn’t want to do it like this. I swear. I just… I couldn’t sleep at night not knowing. I’ve felt like something’s been off for years.
Kai:
(Leaning forward, intense)
So? What did it say?
Anthony:
(Quietly)
It says we’re not related. Not by blood.
Kai:
(Silent, jaw clenched)
You should’ve come to me. I deserved that much.
Anthony:
I know. I know, man. I just… I was scared. What if you weren’t really my brother? What if everything I thought I knew was a lie?
Kai:
Well congratulations. Now everything is a lie. Because you didn’t trust me enough to talk to me first.
Anthony:
Please try to understand. I wasn’t trying to hurt you. I needed to protect myself—from whatever the truth might be.
Kai:
(Coldly)
You don’t protect yourself by betraying the people closest to you.
[A long pause. Tension fills the room.]
Kai:
So what now? You gonna just walk away from me because we’re not blood?
Anthony:
No. Never. You’re my brother in every way that matters—except one. And that’s something I’ll have to live with.
Kai:
(Slowly standing up)
Yeah. You will.
[Kai walks to the door. Before leaving, he turns back.]
Kai:
You didn’t lose a brother, Anthony. You threw one away.
[Kai leaves, slamming the door. Anthony sits in silence, the DNA test still on the table.]
